Algeria is boosting piped exports of gas and LNG to maximise revenues, an ambition helped by the country’s rising production.
Algeria exports gas to Spain using the Maghreb and Medgaz pipelines and to Italy via the Trans-Mediterranean pipeline. Algeria’s pipeline gas exports rose sharply during the first eight months of this year, increasing by 44.9% on an annual basis, to 21.3 bcm. Meanwhile, the country’s LNG exports rose by 4.5% year on year, to 8.21 mt. However, any boost to Algeria’s oil and gas export revenue has been negligible because global commodity prices are still low. Algeria’s hydrocarbon export revenue came to $11.86 billion in H1 2016, much lower than the $17.87 billion it received during H1 2015.
