North African gas production is under pressure, increasing the reliance of countries such as Egypt on imported gas and LNG.
The combined marketed gas production of Algeria, Egypt and Libya fell by 2.2% on an annual basis in 2015 – to 135.2 bcm. At the same time, total demand from the three countries increased by 2.4% – to 94.2 bcm. While falling gas production has made Egypt an LNG importer, it has also dented the ability of Algeria and Libya to export gas and LNG.
