Europe & Russia: Trade

December 2017

Novatek has started operations at its Yamal liquefaction plant, making the company an LNG exporter.

Commercial operations at Yamal, which is located in the Russian Arctic, started in early December. The first shipment from the facility’s 5.5 mpta Train 1 will supply the UK before the end of the year. The start of commercial operations and exports from the train means Novatek has become Russia’s only gas exporter other than Gazprom. The facility’s second train is due to start up next year, and the third is scheduled to come onstream in 2019, bringing the facility’s capacity to 16.5 mtpa. The ramp-up of volumes from Yamal will help provide supplies for Northeast Asia and Europe.
