Europe & Russia: Storage

October 2017

Gas storage volumes are in a strong position in much of Europe at the start of the winter, but the UK and the Netherlands face a more challenging start to the withdrawal season.

European storage sites were around 87% full by mid-October, with roughly 928 TWh of gas in stock. While the volume of gas in storage was down year on year, stocks were higher than at the same time in 2015. In mid-October 2015, Europe had roughly 857 TWh of gas in storage, approximately 8% less than at the same time this year. With a mild start to winter forecast for much of the region, demand for gas from storage is expected to be moderate over the coming weeks.
