November 2017

Spot LNG prices

An increase in buying has driven up spot prices in Northeast Asia.

Northeast Asian spot LNG prices for early Q1 delivery have been driven up to around $9.5-10/MMBtu. Strong spot buying from China is helping to tighten the market before the peak winter period and is pushing up the country’s overall LNG imports. Cold weather hit much of Northeast Asia in November and is forecast to persist into early December. Although average temperatures could dominate much of Northeast Asia in most of December and early Q1 2018, the early winter cold is expected to support the need for spot cargoes from the region’s key buyers.
