Contract prices have seen further gains in Northeast Asia – a trend that will continue next year.

Japan paid an average of $8.3/MMBtu for contracted LNG in June, an increase of 43% on an annual basis. Although year-on-year growth was strong, the average price for June was down from the $8.6/MMBtu price seen in May. A similar picture was observed in South Korea and China. South Korea’s average import price was $7.9/MMBtu in June, up by 38% year on year but down from the average price of $8.3/MMBtu seen in May. China’s average LNG import price was $7.2/MMBtu in June.
