Mexico will remain the driver of Latin America’s gas demand in 2017, partly as a result of its growing economy.
Mexico’s economic prospects are closely tied to those of the United States, with which it has deep trade links. These links, combined with ample pipeline gas and LNG supplies from the US, are promoting the use of gas in Mexico. The IMF has upgraded its forecast for Mexico’s GDP growth in 2017 to 1.9% from its previous forecast of 1.7%.
