Falling gas production in Mexico and Trinidad will weigh on Latin America’s gas output in 2017.
Trinidad opened the nomination process for its 2017 competitive bid round in May – the country’s first licensing round since 2013. The process involves 13 onshore blocks, 19 shallow-water blocks, five northern deepwater blocks and 25 eastern deepwater blocks. Nominations are open until 30 June. However, the bid round will have an effect on the country’s gas production only in the medium-to-long term – output is expected to decline in the near term.
