October 2016

Forward and futures markets

The Henry Hub front-month futures price is strengthening ahead of the start of the 2016-2017 gas withdrawal season.

The Henry Hub price will continue to receive support in the coming months on the expectation of a cold start to the winter and as a result of the relatively weak storage situation in the US SCR. November is now the front-month contract in Henry Hub futures, prompting price gains. The front-month price reached an intraday high of $3.37/MMBtu on 13 October – its highest level since 19 December 2014. GGA expects the price to average $4/MMBtu during the winter (December-February).
