Low gas prices mean the power sector will continue to support gas demand in North America despite weak weather-related demand.
The combined gas consumption of the US and Canada was up by 2.7% on an annual basis in 2015, to 884.6 billion cubic metres. The power sector continues to drive growth, with US gas-for-power demand rising by 18.5% year on year in 2015, to 273.2 bcm. Low prices will keep gas popular in the US power sector. GGA expects US gas-for-power demand will increase by 11.4% year on year in H1 2016, to 137.9 bcm.
